The tools and articles on this site are provided in good faith and are used at your own risk. This page sets out plainly what they can and cannot be relied on for.

Always check the output

Every tool here rewrites your document. The results are correct in the great majority of cases, but PDFs vary enormously in how they are constructed, and unusual files occasionally produce unexpected results.

Open every file this site produces and check it before you rely on it. Look at the page count, scroll through the whole document, confirm the pages are in the right order and the right way up, and check that nothing important is missing or obscured. This matters most for documents being submitted formally, signed, printed at scale, or sent to someone who cannot easily ask you for a correction.

Keep your original files. Because nothing is uploaded, no copy of your work exists anywhere except on your own computer. If you overwrite an original or close the tab before downloading, it cannot be recovered by anyone.

What some operations do not preserve

Certain PDF features are not carried through by certain operations. These are documented on the relevant tool pages, and repeated here because they surprise people:

• Bookmarks — the collapsible outline in a PDF's sidebar — are not preserved when documents are merged or rebuilt.
• Interactive form fields do not survive merging intact. Flatten filled forms before merging by printing them to PDF.
• Embedded attachments inside a PDF are not carried across when pages are copied into a new document.
• Strong compression permanently removes the text layer. Pages become images: the text can no longer be selected, searched or read by a screen reader, and this cannot be undone.
• Converting pages to images discards the text layer permanently, for the same reason.

Signatures

The signing tool places a drawn image of your signature onto a page. This is an electronic signature. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, it carries no cryptographic proof of identity, and it does not detect later changes to the document.

Whether an electronic signature is legally sufficient depends on the document, the parties and the jurisdiction. Some documents — wills, deeds, certain court filings and various notarised instruments — commonly require wet ink, witnessing, or a qualified digital signature. Nothing on this site is legal advice. If a document matters, confirm with the recipient what they accept, and take professional advice where the stakes justify it.

Watermarks are not security

A watermark added by this site is drawn content on the page. Anyone with a full PDF editor can remove it. It communicates status and discourages casual misuse; it does not restrict access, and it should not be treated as a protective measure.

Similarly, deleting pages removes those pages but does not redact information on pages you keep, and clearing metadata removes one category of hidden information but does not anonymise a document. Both points are explained in full on the relevant tool pages.

One consolation: because the tools run in your browser, a page you already have open keeps working even if the site itself goes down.
