    Using Extract pages, step by step

    1. Drop your PDF onto the box above. The tool tells you how many pages it has.
    2. Type the pages you want to keep — for example 1, 4-9, 12. Ranges include both ends.
    3. Press Extract pages. A new PDF is built containing only those pages, in the order you listed them.
    4. Download the extract. The original document is untouched.

    Send the three pages, not the thirty

    Extraction is mostly an act of consideration. A landlord asking for proof of income does not need eighteen months of statements; an insurer chasing one claim does not need your whole medical file; a recruiter wants the certificate, not the entire university handbook it arrived inside. Sending the whole document because splitting it looked like effort makes the other person do the finding, and gives them information they never asked for.

    There is a practical dimension too. Every extra page is a page that could be misread, quoted out of context, or retained longer than you would like. Where a document contains unrelated personal information — an address, an account number, a dependant's name — the safest edit is simply not to send that page.

    Getting the range right

    The one thing to be careful about is that page numbers here mean sheet positions in the file, not the numbers printed on the pages. A report with a cover and two pages of front matter will have its printed "page 1" sitting at position 4. When the two disagree, trust your PDF reader's page counter, which counts sheets the same way this tool does.

    If a document is long and you are not certain where a section starts, open it in Organise PDF first. The thumbnail grid makes boundaries obvious in a way that scrolling does not, and you can read the positions straight off the page numbers underneath.

    A clean extract is a lossless one

    Extraction copies page objects into a fresh document. Text stays text, images keep their full resolution, embedded fonts travel with the pages that need them. The result is smaller than the original in rough proportion to the pages you dropped — though not exactly, since fonts used anywhere in your selection must still be carried in full.

    If the extract needs to be smaller still, compress it afterwards. And if you find yourself extracting almost the whole document, deleting the few pages you do not want is the same operation stated the easier way round.

    Frequently asked questions

    What page-range syntax is accepted?

    Commas separate items, hyphens make ranges. 3 is a single page, 4-9 is six pages including both ends, and 12- means page 12 through to the last page. You can mix all three: 1, 4-9, 12-. Spaces are ignored, and pages outside the document are quietly skipped rather than causing an error.

    Does the order I type them in matter?

    Yes for readability, no for output: pages come out in document order regardless of how you list them. If you need pages in a different sequence, extract them first and then reorder with Organise PDF.

    How is this different from splitting?

    Extracting produces one new PDF containing your selection. Splitting produces many PDFs and hands them to you as a ZIP. If you want "just the three pages the bank asked for", extract. If you want "each of these 40 invoices as its own file", split.

    Will the extracted pages look identical?

    Identical. Pages are copied whole — same fonts, same images, same resolution, same page size. Nothing is re-rendered, so nothing can degrade.

    Can I extract from a password-protected PDF?

    Not if the password is required to open the file. Unlock it in your normal PDF reader, save an unprotected copy, and extract from that.
